Earthquake essay
In the event of a big earthquake, my family and I have discussed and have come up with a plan in order to secure our safety. My family isn't that big, it is basically me and my mom that live on our own. I still talk to my father, but he wasn't around when I was taking about this scenario. The scenario is that if I am at school and there is a big catastrophe I would either immediately call my mom and my dad to notify them that I am OK or they would just call me.
I’m pretty sure that the school would try to settle down the students and try to get them home safely. So if the situation calls for it, my mom would be the one to pick me up from school. Right when she picks me up from school we would go home to get the supplies we need. After we have gotten all the things that we require my mom and I would go to my uncle’s house to try and group up with more of my family that lives around there. The emergency kit that we would have would be in my uncle’s garage.
The emergency earthquake kit would have these kinds of things in it. It would have, Water, one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation Food, at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert and extra batteries for both. The kit would also have a flashlight and extra batteries, and a fist aid kit unless someone gets injured during the catastrophe. There would also be a whistle to signal for help in case someone tries to rob us or something, a Dust mask, to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to be able to shelter-in-place. Moist towelettes or toilet paper would be good; garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation, a wrench or pliers to turn off utilities, a can opener for food (if kit contains canned food) and finally some local maps in case our phones are down.
These are the necessary supplies that my family and I need in order to survive the earthquake catastrophe. Even though these supplies might be limited, this would be good enough to survive for a week until we can find a way to restock our inventory.
